The man behind the scenes!! Starting with renovating Newby Dental Practice from scratch, to ensuring we have the best equipment to work with, as well as all the technology and gadgets you see. Oh, and of course, he’s the general foot soldier for the Team. Happy Team Happy Patients! In his spare time, Rob enjoys mountain biking, dog walking, along with playing squash- feel free to challenge him to a game.

Emma Skipper

Emma Skipper BcHD, PGDip Con Sed, MFDS RCS, MSc, BS. Qualified in LeedsEmma moved to Scarborough after completing her training at York Hospital in the Maxillofacial Surgery Department. Emma provides routine dental care to adults and children on both the NHS and Privately, but mainly treats Denplan Patients. Emma is a big supporter of the Denplan schemes, as they provide the right balance of prevention, advice and treatment for her patients, to ensure optimum oral health. Emma has completed further training in the fields of Oral Surgery, Sedation Dentistry, Endodontics and Orthodontics (as an Invisalign provider).When Emma is not at Newby Dental Practice she works at Scarborough General Hospital completing complex surgical extractions and wisdom teeth extractions, alongside managing head and neck cancer patients. She also runs a sedation lead oral surgery clinic, for anxious patients. Emma takes referrals from local dentists for Oral Surgery, Sedation and Invisalign treatments, as well as self referrals from patients enquiring about dental treatment. Emma is currently completing her training to provide Implants, to supplement her current surgical skills. Emma also volunteers for a dental charity Bridge to Aid Charity where she travels out to Tanzania to provide dental treatment and training to the poorest and most rural communities within the region. Look out for information and donation boxes at the practice, as every little helps.

Katherine McCarthy

Katherine McCarthy (Katie) BDS, PGDip Con Sed, MFDS RCS, Qualified in the UKKatie graduated from University College Cork, Ireland, in 2011 and has lived in the UK since. She moved to the York area to work as a Senior House Officer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, at York Hospital and soon fell in love with Yorkshire! She has completed the Diploma of Membership of Faculty of Dental Surgery, at the Royal College of Surgeons, and Postgraduate Diploma Qualification in Conscious Sedation at the University of Newcastle. Katie is excellent at providing a relaxing environment for your dental treatment, and is highly experienced at dealing with anxious patients, especially young children, who may be faced with dental treatment for the first time. Katie takes referrals for sedation from local dentists, including adult intravenous sedation and Gas and Air Sedation for children. She also accepts self referrals from patients wishing to have their treatment in a more relaxed and calm manner. Outside of work, Katie volunteers as part of a befriending programme at a local care home and has now become a keen runner and often training for half marathons

Helen Evans

Helen Evans, BDS, Qualified in the UKHelen graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2007. She completed her postgraduate Vocational Training in Scarborough, and as she enjoyed working in a practice by the seaside so much, she never wanted to leave! As such Helen has work in general dental practices within Scarborough ever since qualifying. Helen’s main focus is on Family Dentistry. Having a calming and empathetic character, Helen makes a trip to the dentist relaxing and enjoyable for everyone. Helen is a Denplan dentist, but does also offer treatment on a private basis. She works alongside the hygienists to ensure your oral health is maintained to the highest standards. When Helen is not working hard as a dentist, she enjoys playing hockey, partaking in other sporting and outdoor activities, and looking after her young family.

Phil Allamby
Dentist - GDC 61006
Philip Allamby, BDS, Qualified in the UKPhil lived for nineteen years in South Yorkshire before moving to Shrewsbury in 2005. He returned to his beloved Yorkshire in 2020 to join the team at Newby Dental Practice. Phil treats patients either privately or on Denplan. Phil has completed extensive postgraduate training in a wide range of dental specialties. His special areas of interest are in cosmetic and restorative dentistry. He takes referrals from local dentists for cosmetic and restorative work. When not working, Phil enjoys listening to music on his hi fi system, walking his dogs on the beach and enjoying a well kept pint of real ale.

Peter Dendis

Peter DendisPeter trained in Prague and moved to the UK after qualifying. After working in Practices in both Scarborough and Whitby, Peter took a post working in the South, to further enhance his dental experiences. Peter soon realised that moving away from the Yorkshire coast was a mistake, missing living near the sea, he soon returned in order to enjoy the great outdoors, walks along our fabulous beaches and camping along the beautiful coastline. Peter’s main areas of interest are Invisalign, Facial Aesthetics and Family Dentistry. In his spare time, when Peter is not enjoying Yorkshire’s hidden gems, he enjoys boxing, appreciating art and music, and exploring with new culinary techniques at home.

Annie O’Sullivan

BDS, MFDS RCS, PGcert Med Ed Qualified in SheffieldAnnie qualified from the University of Sheffield in 2016; following this, Annie completed further training in general practice in York, and since worked in a variety of areas in Dentistry. Annie has completed posts in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and as such has a passion for the surgical side of dentistry. Also being a big believing in further education, Annie is qualified in Medical Education and has taught undergraduate dental students as a Restorative Clinical Teaching Fellow in Leeds Annie’s heart always belonged to Scarborough, but wanting to fulfil a lifelong dream of going to work for the Royal Flying Doctors before settling down, she travelled to work in one of the most remote locations in Australia providing dental care for patients living in the deep Outback! There is nothing quite like flying across the desert to work on a Monday morning, but there's also nothing quite like our wonderful Scarborough, and as keen surfers, runners and general outdoors activity lovers, Annie and her partner are so happy to be home living by the sea. As such, Annie is so excited to be working at Newby Dental Practice, continuing the NHS Emergency service and seeing both Private and Denplan patients, and also planning to undertake further training in endodontics, removable prosthodontics (dentures) and restorative dentistry in the future. She is most looking forward to enabling patients to feel confident and cared for when having dental treatment in a pain-free, relaxed environment.

Holly Lemke

Holly Lemke BSc in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy, Radiology Lead, Qualified in the UK September 2021Holly graduated this year as a Dental Therapist from Teesside University, she is skilled at complex gum disease and has a keen interest in restorative work. Holly works alongside our Dentists to provide patients with excellent all round dental care. Holly was a Dental Nurse for 19 years prior to graduating this summer, and continues to be out Radiation Protection Supervisor, ensuring compliance and safety at all times. In her spare time, she regularly competes her horses and loves spending time with her fur babies at home. Fun fact, Holly is Ellie’s sister!

Amanda Watson

Amanda Watson, Diploma in hygiene therapy, June 1999, Qualified in the UKMandy works hard alongside the dentists to provide full mouth gum treatment, to both prevent, treat and manage all forms of gum disease. She is excellent at achieving a cosmetic result after treatment, and at teaching you how to maintain your oral hygiene regime to keep teeth and gums in optimum health. Mandy is experienced at managing anxious patients, her relaxed and empathetic approach has lead to her to also having a strong patient fan base! When not at Newby Dental Practice, Mandy loves travelling with her family and keeping active. She has recently bought a camper van to explore in!

Helen Gill

Helen Gill, Diploma in hygiene therapy, March 1990, Qualified in the UKHelen is a highly skilled hygienist who takes a multi-disciplinary approach to providing hygiene maintenance and support. Her main aim to not only help treat or control any dental disease, but also ensure patients are aware of what dental hygiene regimes work for them . Helen is excellent at managing anxious patients, her calming manner and gentle approach has lead to her having a strong patient fan base. In her spare time, Helen is a keen cyclist and baker (sugar free treats of course!)

Claire Allanson

Claire Allanson, Practice Manager, GDC123175Claire works alongside our dentist’s to provide chairside support for all clinical procedures as well as ensuring our patients are relaxed and comfortable. Claire's background is within the secondary care sector, having worked in the community dental services, her strengths lie in putting patients at ease. Her qualification in Dental Sedation means she is responsible for ensuring patients safety during these procedures. Claire has also had many years of experience working at Scarborough General Hospital in both the Restorative and Orthodontic departments, as well as running the clinical sessions on the Maxillofacial head and Neck cancer departments. All of Claire’s clinical experiences and qualifications combined make her perfect for the role as Compliance Manager here at Newby, as she ensures we are all providing safe and quality care to all of our patients. In her spare time Claire enjoys any outdoor activity including walking and camping with her young boys, and is especially dedicated to her bootcamps!

Claire Chambers

Claire currently works alongside dentists and our hygienists Helen and Mandy, providing chairside support for our patients for our dental practice in Scarborough. Claire is also one of our Receptionists, so you’ll see her working in both roles! Claire is Sedation trained, and assists in intravenous and inhalation sedation procedures. Making our patients feel relaxed and at ease, whilst also ensuring their safety throughout the procedure. Claire wishes to further enhance her skills and learning into other fields of dentistry, including completing her advanced training in Dental Implants and Radiology. Claire mostly enjoys assisting our Dentist’s with transforming people’s smiles and making patients feel more confident. When Claire is not helping improve patients' smiles and oral health, she likes to spend her time with family, friends and her fur baby Honey.

Diane Squire, Orthodontic dental nurse, NEBDN, Qualified in the UK November 2002Diane is an experienced Dental Nurse, keen on patient education and disease prevention. Di is very knowledgeable in the field of Orthodontics (Braces), and works alongside Emma, providing Invisalign treatments to patients wanting that straighter smile! When Di is not helping improve patients smile and confidence, she enjoys foreign travel and is a self confessed foodie!

Beth Jordan

Beth Jordan, Dental Nurse, Oral health Educator, Sterilisation Lead, NEBDN, Qualified in the UK January 2019Beth works alongside Katie, providing support for all dental treatments and helping ensure our patients are cared for. As well as this, Beth has a keen interest in helping patients improve their oral health, and their understanding of what causes tooth decay and gum disease. Having qualified as an Oral Health Educator, Beth works closely with many patients, but especially with children who are finding tooth brushing skills difficult to master. Beth in her spare time is a bit of a fitness fanatic, and enjoys outdoor activities with her family and four legged friend.

Jamie Besau

Jamie Besau, Dental Nurse, Sedation nurse, NEBDN, Qualified in the UK January 2016Jamie works alongside our dentists, providing support in surgery for all dental treatments. Her calming manner helps put patients at ease, especially children. Jamie is the lead sedation nurse for Newby Dental Practice, which is where her calming nature comes into its own. Jamie supports Emma and Katie whilst they are sedating patients for more complex dental treatment. Jamie is responsible for helping with monitoring patient’s general condition throughout treatment, and ensures everything is completed in a safe and controlled manner. When it comes to providing gas and air treatment for children, Jamie is a natural, which helps make both our young patients and the parents feel at ease. Jamie has three young children, so in her spare time, amongst being a busy Mum and keeping up with her studies, she has a well earned rest with a cup of tea!

Jenna Buck

Jenna works alongside our dentist’s providing chairside support for all clinical procedures as well as ensuring our patients are relaxed and comfortable Jenna has been a Qualified Dental Nurse for over 15 years, and as such has a wide range of experiences in many sectors. Having spent a majority of her dental career working alongside Orthodontists, Jenna is highly proficient at providing care and advice for our Invisalign patients. Jenna also has further qualifications in Radiology, and as such she acts as our Radiation Protection Supervisor, checking our policies and procedures, along with all our x ray equipment, to make sure we keep all our staff and patients safe. Outside of work, Jenna likes working on home renovations projects and has a pet friendly home- as is the requirement here at Newby- as she has two Dogs, a Cat and a Rabbit.

Lauren Argyle

Lauren Argyle, trainee Dental Nurse, ReceptionistLauren currently works alongside our dentist and our hygienists Helen and Mandy, providing chairside support for all our patients. Lauren is also one of our Receptionists, so you’ll see her working in both roles too! Lauren is currently completing practical and theoretical training towards her NEBDN in Dental Nursing. It’s a big career change for Lauren, coming from a retail background, but with her positive attitude and motivation, she is an excellent team player. Lauren would also like to do further training in dental implants to further assist our dentists in dental implant placements. When Lauren is not working, or studying, she enjoys spending time with her young family, and socialising with friends. She has recently taken up camping!

Emma currently works alongside our Dentists and our Hygienists Helen and Mandy, providing chairside support for all our patients. Emma is also training to support our Therapist Holly, providing assistance for Periodontal and Restorative Treatments. Emma is currently completing practical and theoretical training towards her NEBDN in Dental Nursing. When Emma is not working, or studying, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Emma is a keen traveller and loves to explore new cities whilst on city breaks with friends.

Lauren is about to undergo the practical and theoretical training towards her NEBDN in Dental Nursing. Lauren has a background in Counselling and Mentoring Young People. Becoming a Dental Nurse is a big career change for Lauren, however she is looking forward to making use of her skills and empathetic approach with patients! In Lauren's spare time she likes to spend time with her young family and socialising with friends. She also likes to read books to relax on an evening!

Jemma Bugless, trainee Dental NurseJemma is a trainee dental nurse at the practice. She loves making a positive impact on someone's day, even if it's just a passing smile. Jemma has two children and a springer spaniel so a rather busy and loud home. She likes an outdoor adventure and is always up for anything that will get the adrenaline going. Although she does like a good Irish bar with live music and a Guinness but my favourite place to be is in the kitchen cooking Sunday lunch with my children.

Ellie is one of our fabulous receptionists here at Newby Dental Practice. You will find her at the heart of the Practice, the Front Desk most days, but she will also be working behind the scenes too, answering calls and helping with everyone's enquiries. Ellie's strengths lie in ensuring all of our patients receive the best service and care possible. Coming from a long career in hospitality, Ellie decided to switch direction and dive into the world of dentistry. When not in the practice, Ellie can be found on adventures with her little family or hunting for the best place to enjoy her favourite treat, Afternoon Tea with friends. Fun fact, Ellie is Holly's Sister!

Emily works full time at the heart of the practice, on the reception desk. So she is always here to greet you with a smiling face, and answer any questions you might have. Like Ellie, with a background in hospitality, she’s highly experienced in providing excellent service, making sure everyone leaves happy. When not at work, Emily loves catching up with friends and family, but her love is music. Listening to new music, attending festivals, bands or concerts, anything music related, Emily is there! Fun fact- Emily loves to skydive to raise money for her favourite charities! Not for the faint hearted!
